In 2011, I opened my first private school in a 1,200-square-foot building. I had the passion. I had the teaching experience. But I quickly discovered that running a school required an entirely different set of skills.
I struggled with enrollment, expenses, and financial decisions. There were times I couldn't afford to pay myself. Over time, I learned important lessons about school operations and business planning.
Then, in 2024, I opened Beyond the Spectrum Institute, a specialized private school serving children with autism and other educational needs. In under two years, it grew to serve 150+ students and developed an extensive waiting list.
Today, I own two private schools serving more than 260 students, which together form an educational enterprise with an estimated multimillion-dollar valuation. And now, I'm sharing the business lessons from that journey with educators who want to explore school ownership for themselves.
You don't have to repeat every mistake I made to start developing a smarter plan.
You're a teacher who has dreamed of owning a private school.
